I am very rural and our Post Office is only open a few hours each day. They are closed for lunch; occasionally when the clerks are doing deliveries; and at 4PM weekdays. Plus closed Saturdays, Sundays and all Holidays. Needless to say the USPS cutbacks have hit us harder than just about anywhere else. Sometimes it can be a challenge just to get something mailed!

The Post Office significantly raised package shipping fees 2 years ago and have another increase planned for January 2014. Currently, packages weighing over 13 ounces and up to approximately 5 pounds are the most expensive to ship on a per pound basis. Parcel Post to the East Coast in some cases runs $107.16 not including insurance or delivery confirmation. These are the packages most people ship, so the PO makes a tidy windfall on these lighter class shipments. Furthermore, rates are not charged by weight and distance alone. A three tier multiplier is used to calculate the volume of all packages over 12"x12"x12". The first tier; up to 83" length and girth combined; is a small per pound surcharge based primarily on the actual weight for medium-sized packages. Once a large package measures between 84" - 107" though, you pay for a balloon rate 20 pound parcel, or for the actual weight, whichever is more. If you exceed this dimensional allowance and ship a very large package between 108" - 130", you pay for 70 pounds regardless of the actual weight. For example, shipping a brick to New York will cost you $9.92, but a very large 24"x 24" x 24" box weighing 3 pounds with a pillow, will cost $107.16.

I ship via USPS Parcel Post or Priority Mail; whichever is less; within 1 business day 90% of the time, but sometimes delays are unavoidable. I will keep costs as low as I can, and use the best care reasonably possible to ensure safe delivery of your merchandise. Per eBay rules, U.S. purchases are shipped with a delivery confirmation tracking number for your protection. Surprisingly, Postal insurance no longer offers online tracking, so I only purchase it for delicate and high value articles. FedEx or Greyhound Bus shipping of large or heavy items will be automatically declared at full value and sent insured whenever possible, but due to their distance from my home (70+ miles round trip), it may take an extra week before I can get to town and ship your item(s).

Please understand though; that after 9-11 Foreign shipping became very expensive and that the Post Office now offers only Priority and Express airmail. All inexpensive services were cancelled via sea mail ( ship ), including Parcel Post surface, M-bags, Book Rates, Library Mail, Periodicals, and Media Mail. Parcel Post airmail was also cancelled, so the only option left for very large packages is Express Mail
